Brawns Over Brains:
Lifelong consequences of head injuries in football players
“To me, football will always be synonymous with fall, family, and friends. However, as a scientist, it’s hard to ignore the data that’s been revealed over the last decade detailing how harmful the sport can be for players’ neurological (brain) health. While we cheer on the sidelines, what’s happening under the helmet?”

The tree in my backyard knows what time it is.
“We thought maybe it was the cold weather trees were responding to. We thought, maybe because the trees are losing their leaves in the cold winter, and the fall colors were preceding the dropping of the leaves; then therefore the trees were detecting a change in temperature. However, because the temperature can be so variable throughout the year, deciduous trees need a more stable account of the change of the seasons. Another way of phrasing the question; How do trees know what time of year it is?”

From Algae to Mind Control: The 2026 Nobel Prize in Medicine
“The world of neuroscience has long been interested in understanding the mysteries of human thought. How do we form memories? What happens in our brains when we daydream? How can a collection of cells produce something as complicated as creativity, emotion, or consciousness?
More importantly, how can we even begin to measure these things?”
